Applying for a Grant
The Trustees meet three times a year to consider applications, usually in the spring, summer and autumn.
The next meeting date is Monday 14th July 2008.
In order to support and assist you with your application the Trust Secretary recommends that you send in your application well in advance of the deadline of your funding requirement. The Trust tries to be flexible as they can but are not able to present applications if they arrive immediately before a scheduled meeting. If however your application for is funding under £1,000 this can usually be processed outside meetings and usually within 1 month. The Trust welcomes telephone enquiries.
Written applications should be submitted to the Trust Secretary at least six weeks before the meeting date. Following receipt of your application we may contact you for further information.
Please include in your letter of application the following information:
- What type of organisation are you and how do you benefit the community?
- How are you organised and managed?
- How many staff and volunteers do you have?
- Are you a registered charity? If so, we will need your charity number. If not, you will need to provide a registered charity or CVS and its number which is prepared to administer funds on your behalf.
- What relationship, if any, do you have with similar or umbrella organisations?
- What is your main funding source?
- A description of the project you are currently fundraising for, the cost, how much you would like us to consider and when it is required.
- Who else have you approached and what response have you had?
- Have you applied to the Big Lottery? If not, why not?
- A copy of your latest Trustee Report and Accounts or if you are a new organisation, a copy of your latest bank statement.
We are sorry but we can not accept the following applications:
- From individuals or to replace funding withdrawn by Local Authorities.
- From organisations that do not have an identifiable project within the beneficial area.
Helpful hints for fundraisers
- Plan your work/project well in advance of needing the funding. Give yourself plenty of time to fundraise.
- Try to be realistic when working on your budget - you should keep a record of how you worked out the costs and what information you used.
- Try to keep your application brief and to the point.
- When working out salary costs ensure that the advice you get is current by talking to someone who specialises in pay roll. Your local CVS may be able to help.
- If you are applying for money to build or renovate a building you need to think about how it will be maintained after it is built and where the running costs will come from.
